FG: $322M ABACHA LOOT TO BE DISBURSED TO POOR HOME FROM JULY

The Federal Government says it will begin the disbursement of the 322-million-dollar Abacha loot recovered through Conditional Cash Transfers (CCT). 302,000 households in 19 states are projected to benefit from this scheme that will begin in July.

 

This was disclosed by Tukur Rumar of the National Cash Transfer Office (NTCO), at a roundtable meeting on assets recovery, organized by the Swiss embassy in Abuja on Thursday.

 

According to Mr Rumar, the beneficiaries will receive 5,000 naira monthly.

 

The states include Ekiti, Oyo, Osun, Kwara, Niger, Taraba, Benue, Cross River, Anambra, Jigawa, Bauchi, Adamawa, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Plateau, Gombe, Nasarawa and Internally Displaced Camps (IDPs) in Borno.

 

He said the program was also designed to train beneficiaries on livelihood skills, social skills and programs that will help better their lives.

 

Mr Rumar also disclosed that since December 2016, the NCTO has been making payments to 46,000 poor households across the 19 states and added that the number had increased to 290,000.

 

National Coordinator of the National Social Safety Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO), Iorwa Apera said 503,055 households were already on the National Social Register from the 19 states, adding that by July, there would be a social register for all the states of the federation.
