A former director of Administration in the Nigeria Air Force, Alkali Mamu, has been discharged by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
He was on June 2016 charged by the Electoral and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly receiving gratification of 300,000 dollars and another sum of 5.9 million naira for the purchase of vehicles from a member of the Procurement and Planning Committee of the Ministry of Defence while on duty.
He was also alleged to have received as a bribe from the Societe D’ Equipment Internationaux Nigeria Ltd, a contractor with the Nigerian Air Force, an Expedition SUV and a Jaguar XF Saloon valued at 15 million naira and 12 million naira, respectively.
Justice Garba Salisu while delivering his judgement on Friday said that the prosecution had failed to adhere to constitutional provisions for obtaining statements from a witness.
Justice Salisu also stated that the prosecution witness confirmed in court that the commission was aware of the location of a key witness but failed to bring the witness to court.
He discharged the defendant on the four-count charge based on the failure of the prosecution to prove its case against him.
