According to a statement by Zanswat Bowsan, Press Officer of the Israeli Embassy, the West African Power Pool has signed a deal with Gigawatt Global, an Israeli firm and is expected to build one billion dollars’ worth of renewable energy projects in the ECOWAS sub-region.

800megawatts of trans-boundary green energy is also expected to be built as part of the project across the West African region in a bid to enhance economic growth.

According to Guy Feldman, Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, he engaged stakeholders in the African energy sector in a meeting during which he said the deal will build the West African Power Pool and create a regional electricity system.

This initiative, however, was conceived by Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister, while addressing the ECOWAS summit on June 5, 2017.
