20,000 pharmacists being trained on drug abuse-NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, announced Tuesday that it is training 20,000 young pharmacists across the country as part of efforts to end the menace of drug abuse.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof Moji Adeyeye made this known while speaking with journalists, in commemoration of the 2018 World International Day Against Drug Abuse in Abuja.

According to Adeyeye, the training was a pilot phase for a comprehensive study and research across the country on drug abuse. The pharmacists, no older than 35 years are expected to visit secondary schools across the country, distribute questionnaires and conduct a systematic study on the scope of drug abuse.

The director general assured of the agency’s commitment to end drug abuse as well as ensure that those dealing in illicit and substandard drugs are punished.

June 26 every year has been set by the United Nations as International Day against Drug Abuse, to create awareness against Illicit trafficking or illegal drug trade across the globe.
