The Federal Government has banned the training of private security guards by consultants in Nigeria. This was disclosed by the Commandant-General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdullahi Muhammadu in Abuja on Thursday.
While speaking at the opening ceremony for the training programme for Chief Executive officers and Directors of private security guard companies, Muhammadu stated that the decision by the government was for national security reasons and the government had taken up the responsibility of training and closely monitoring private security outfits.
He noted that to achieve this objective, the Corp’s training facilities were approved for use all across the country.
The President of Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria, Davidson Akhimen, however, noted that the training had come at the right time, in view of the role of the Private Security Guards Company (PSGCs), with over three million personnel, in maintaining the security of Nigerians.
