NIGERIA GOES TOUGH ON FAKE TAX CLEARANCES

The Nigeria Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, yesterday, in Abuja, issued a circular mandating all ministries, departments and agencies within the cloves of the government and federal Inland Revenue Service to ensure they authenticate their Tax Clearance Certificates.

According to the circular, Ministries, Departments and Agencies’ forthwith should authenticate all Tax Clearance Certificates, TCC, before payments are made to individuals and corporate organizations.

Adeosun said the directive is in response to the increased number of forged TCCs issued before automation of the certificates, which commenced on the 22nd of August 2017.

Under the new regime, Ministries, Departments, Agencies and stakeholders are expected to forward a list of companies and photocopies of the Tax Clearance Certificates to the office of the FIRS Executive Chairman for authentication, for those issued before August 22.

She further reminded company directors that having fake TCCs is an offence. She said those who are in doubt of the originality of their Tax Clearance Certificates should regularize them with VAIDS.
