Awoyaya Residents lament the Epileptic power supply

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed an appreciable increase of power generation to the national grid, following the intervention of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

The increase, coming on the heels of a nationwide outage, has now raised the national grid to 3,876.9 Mega Watt.

TCN had blamed power outages experienced across the nation on a rupture in a gas pipeline. It said the rupture subsequently led to the shutdown of 6 power stations followed by a steep drop in power generation by 1087 Mega Watts.

According to TCN spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, the latest increase is, therefore, attributable to the improvement in the supply of gas to power generating plants stirred by the NNPC.

She said NNPC had restored the ruptured pipeline and that the required gas is gradually building up at the generating stations.

While commended the quick intervention efforts of the NNPC, Mbah reassured that gas and power should be back to normal in a few days, while the power stations would resume operations.

She also confirmed that the TCN is building new substations and upgrading already existing substations all over the country, which should help bring about stability when completed.
