As of Friday, June 15, 3,992.60MW megawatts were generated on the grid according to reports from the Nigerian Electricity System Operators. However, the total number of collapsed grids since the beginning of this year is 7, according to data from the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing.
The last collapse was on June 8 which led to a sharp drop in electricity generation from 3,669.20MW to 2,202.40MW as of 6 am the next day.
The unfortunate collapse also led to the shutdown of five other plants which include Sapele I, Geregu I, Sapele II, Egbin and Alaoji.
By June 12, power generated rose to 3,720.60 MW with some of the previously shut down streams back up.
The reports showed that currently, 10 out of 27 plants remain idle.
The operators have put the nations installed capacity at 11,165.40M, the available capacity of 7,139.60MW, with a transmission of 7,000MW, operational capacity of 5,500MW and maximum of 5,222.3MW ever obtained.
