Chief James Ibori who was in 2012 given a 13-year jail term but served only from 2012 to 2016, has filed an appeal to challenge his conviction.

According to him, if he had been informed about the corruption intelligence, he would not have pleaded guilty to the close to £50 million laundering

He has challenged his conviction by a court in London. To this effect, the judges handling the appeal filed by the former Delta state governor said last Thursday, that failure of the Metropolitan police and crown prosecution service to hand over intelligence could have undermined the charges against Ibori.

Ibori’s media aide, Tony Eluemunor, in a statement yesterday quoted the judges as saying they do not minimise the prosecution’s disclosure failures in this case.

To the contrary, they take a grave view of them, as recent events have yet again emphasized that disclosure failures can cause great injustice.”
