After weeks of violence and over 165 deaths, Nicaragua’s government and opposition groups have agreed to a ceasefire.
In peace talks brokered by the Roman Catholic Church in Managua, it was agreed a truth commission will be established to investigate all deaths and acts of violence and identify those culpable.
It was also agreed that international investigators will be allowed into the country.
Protests broke out on April 19 after the imposition of pension cuts and a new tax regime by the government of President Daniel Ortega.
Although the cuts were later scrapped, protests continued, but this time it was against Ortega’s government.
