Non-traditional condom outlets have been set up by the United Nations Population Fund, UNPF around refugee camps in Cross River.

The Project Coordinator for UNPF, Dr Idowu Araoyinbo, in an interview with journalists today, said the intervention is to make condoms readily available to these communities.

According to the coordinator, the global body did a mapping to identify the health care providers close to the benefiting communities and volunteers, including refugees.

They were then engaged and trained as focal persons to distribute and enlighten people in their wards on the benefits and proper use of condoms.

The exercise first carried out in Ikom is also targeted at Etung, Akamkpa Boki, and Obanliku Local Government Areas of the state.

The project was in partnership with Cross River Primary Health Care Agency, State Ministry of Health, the Nigeria Red Cross, as well as patent medicine dealers in Benue and Cross River states.
