The Philippino Government has revealed plans to purchase guns for community leaders who are willing to fight crime and drugs within the communities. President Rodrigo Duterte said he was considering arming community leaders after discussions with security officials.
He vowed only last week to provide legal protection to community leaders, in the same way, soldiers or police received protection.
He added that if they shot any criminal they would never go to jail.
However, concerns have been raised by the international community regarding the government’s war on crime and drugs, during which thousands of people have been killed.
