The Nigerian Democratic Alliance, NDA, has condemned the continued calls for the removal of Professor Mahmud Yakubu, chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC by some politicians because of his ethnic background.
The alliance described the attacks on Yakubu as personalised attacks, insisting such attacks fell outside the bounds of fair exchanges.
The group also called on politicians to show sufficient regard for the role of INEC, its independence and the channels for appropriate discourse.
NDA appealed to Nigerians to stand against any attempt by individuals or groups, that may be politically motivated to derail the INEC from delivering free and fair elections next year.
