It broke our hearts yesterday to announce the death of Veteran Nigerian singer Ras Kimono, who passed on at the age of 60 on Saturday, 9th June 2018 at Lagoon Hospital. Late Ras Kimono was scheduled to be on a flight to America when he complained of not feeling too well. He passed on at Lagoon hospital in Ikoyi. Coincidentally, Ras Kimono passed away exactly a month after his 60th birthday, which he celebrated in Delta state.
Oritz Wiliki, Sir Shina Peters, Controversial Senator Dino Melaye, etcetera all mourned the veteran singer. It was also reported that Copyright Society of Nigeria Chairman Tony Okoroji, was with the veteran singer on Saturday night while he was in the hospital. According to him, he left Kimono in high spirit on his hospital bed at the Lagoon hospital in Ikoyi.
Another person that spent Ras Kimono’s last hours with him was Majek Fashek, an industry colleague and also a veteran reggae singer. Majek revealed they had plans of recording new music together after a meeting was set up with Majek’s manager who was in America, where Ras Kimono was scheduled to be. Majek lamented “Ras Kimono why too soon, Kimono my brethren? RIP. I am short of words, our last meeting three days ago was for you to meet with my manager Uzo in America and death took you away. You will forever be in my heart. I am gonna miss you. Jah loves you more. Till we meet again. Just three days ago, Ras Kimono and I spoke to my able manager presently in America to meet in New York before death took you away,”
Unending tributes kept pouring in For Kimono from industry colleagues like Music band Buntu, Blacky and several others.
Ras Kimono will always be remembered for his Patois Styled Music and his advocacy for Social Change. Rest On RAS Kimono.
