A lone suicide bomber has killed himself in a failed attempt to detonate an improvised explosive device -IED in Borno state.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Damian Chukwu, in a statement confirming the incident in Maiduguri, said the bomber, who was headed for a huge crowd in the Monday Market general area, panicked, when he sighted police and other security agents in the area, and denoted the IED.
Chukwu said the explosive ordinance device team of the police was quickly deployed to sanitise the area.
He assured that more police personnel have been deployed to the area and other flash-points in the state to forestall any other attempt.
