As reactions continue to roll in over the declaration of June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day, the Senate has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to go a step further by declaring the late Moshood Abiola, and his running mate, Babagana Kingibe, president and ex-vice president respectively.
This followed the adoption of a point of order raised by the Senator representing Ogun central, Lanre Tejuoso for the house to confirm the declarations by President Buhari on the matter.
The Senate also resolved that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, should declare the results of the 1993 election.
Although the house seems to back the June 12 declaration, it, however, resolved that May 29 should remain the official inauguration day for elected public officials to out-wit tenure elongation.
Also pushed forward, was for the approval of all entitlements for Abiola and his Vice, due to their office.
Recall that Buhari had on Wednesday shocked Nigerians by announcing that Nigeria’s Democracy Day would now be marked on June 12 in honour of MKO Abiola, who he also granted a posthumous honour of the GCFR award.
