Nasarawa state government has shut down 35 primary schools in Obi Local Government Area over attacks on Tiv communities, that resulted in the destruction of school property.
The education secretary of Obi Local Government, Ogashuwa Onuku Samuel told journalists that as a result, funds meant for educational development are instead being used to rehabilitate destroyed primary schools in the Southern zone.
While highlighting the effect of an ongoing Universal Basic Education Commission’s national audit on the local government, the Education Secretary emphasised the need for government to intervene and help resolve the differences between warring parties.
He said this will ensure that peace can be restored for educational activities to resume.
Areas affected are many, including Nkusu, Mbagwa, Gidan Onuku, Kuje, Akaha among others.
