Volcan de Fuego, or Volcano of Fire, blows outs a thick cloud of ash, as seen from Alotenango, Guatemala, Sunday, June 3, 2018

After several hours of searching the zone devastated by the eruption of the volcano of fire, Guatemala’s national disaster agency says it’s suspending rescue effortsThe agency says the area affected is not safe for the rescuers, as rain has been hitting the area and the still- hot volcanic material is still deposited there and this makes it dangerous even for the rescuers.

It noted that the 72 hours, which was the length of the time conventional wisdom, the officials, had earlier stated that some victims might survive, is already passed. The agency also advised that people stay away from the area.
