The Nigerian Prisons Service says the June 3 incident at Minna Medium Security Prison at Tunga area of Minna metropolis, which led the death of a prison officer and a motorcyclist, was not a jailbreak.
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Prisons Service, Francis Enobore, while speaking to the press in Abuja this morning, clarified that it was actually an attack on the prison.
Enobore identified overcrowding, old and weak infrastructure as the major causes of jailbreaks across the country.
He said that the Controller General of the Nigerian Prison Service, Ja’afaru Ahmed has embarked on projects to forestall a repeat, adding that fortified cells will be built to ensure safety.
