The family of late Chief MKO Abiola has praised President Muhammadu Buhari for honouring their father with an award.
Chief Abiola was conferred with a posthumous Grand Commander of the Federal Republic Award.
The president also announced that June 12, which will become a public holiday, replaces May 29 as Democracy Day.
In a string of tweets, members of the Abiola family expressed their appreciation of the move.
Online, messages continue to pour in as Nigerians and many others respond to what some thought was long overdue.
Some of the tweets were of thanks; others used the opportunity to remember Chief MKO Abiola who they called a national hero.
