Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has praised the President Muhammadu Buhari for declaring June 12 the new Democracy Day, in honour of the late Chief MKO Abiola, the reputed winner of the June 12, 1993, Presidential Election.
Ambode, speaking in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, said the declaration was both symbolic and a historic.
He acknowledged that Buhari had, by this action, done what previous administrations failed to do.
He further described the president as a man of history and character, adding that the move has shown Abiola, Nigeria’s heroes of democracy, did not die in vain.
President Muhammadu Buhari had today given an executive order declaring that June 12 will henceforth be celebrated as Democracy Day.
