The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Benjamin Ozumba, has called for relief support from the government as a heavy rain hit the university campus on Sunday night, blowing off roofs of several buildings.

Ozumba who spoke to PlusTV Africa’s correspondent through his Director Public Relations, Okon Omeaku, explained that the storm which uprooted trees and wrecked both hostels and buildings belonging to university staff caused a huge disruption in the schools’ activities.

The Vice-Chancellor said the school management has temporarily assigned the affected students to other hostels while trying to fix the roof.

Reports say the students who were asleep when the heavy rain started, lost most of their belongings during the downpour.

Okpara Hostel, the female hostel and male hostel Eni Njoku hostels are the worst hit by the storm.
