The U.S has praised Nigeria’s efforts at stopping child labour and has promised its support towards eradicating it.

The International Relations Officer, Africa Adviser, in the U.S Department of Labour, Olaoluwa Abina during a working visit to the Labour and Employment Ministry in Abuja, said this was to enhance labour monitoring and work-related safety in Nigeria.

It was also an opportunity to meet the participants to identify any lapses, for a better operational style.

The U.S Embassy Labour Attaché in Nigeria, Mirna Torres observed that there has been a big drop in the incidence of child workers in Nigeria and commended the minister for leading the cause.

The Labour and Employment Minister, Dr Chris Ngige responded that the Buhari administration has a clear policy that child labour needs to be totally stamped out, hence the methodical modelling of its Social Investment Programme for school children through the ‘Home Grown School Feeding Programme’, all to make school appealing and help the underprivileged.
