Egyptians demand removal of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Angry Protest
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has been sworn in today at the Egyptian parliament for the second time after winning at the elections in March.
Al-Sisi is a 63-year-old former intelligence chief and defense minister. He came into power in 2013 after he overthrew Egypt’s first freely elected president, Mohammed Mursi following protests against his rule.
He served a four-year term and was re-elected in March as he won 97 percent of the vote on a turnout of 41 percent.
The election had just one opposition candidate who was a passionate supporter of Al-sisi, as serious supporters withdrew and stopped campaigns in January citing intimidation.
One main challenger was reported to have been arrested and his campaign manager beaten up.
