There was pandemonium in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State this afternoon as an alleged policeman engaged to provide security at a reception for Dr Kayode Fayemi turned his gun on the APC governorship candidate and other party chieftains at the event.
Although Fayemi, escaped by whiskers, member of the House of Representatives and a governorship aspirant, Opeyemi Bamidele, was not so lucky. he got hit by the bullet. Also hit by a bullet was another yet to be named chieftain of the All Progressive Congress.
The incident happened during a reception organised for Fayemi, at the APC secretariat in Ajilosun, Ado-Ekiti. Fayemi resigned as minister of solid mineral development during the week, to enable him to concentrate on his governorship campaign, ahead of the July 14 gubernatorial election in the state.
Reports say Bamidele has been rushed to the hospital, while the other person who was also shot is rumoured dead. However, another account insists that the second victim is not dead, but was receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital.
Fayemi who had earlier arrived at the Akure airport on Friday afternoon was cheerfully received by his APC party members and was taken to Ado Ekiti to attend the reception organised for him following his resignation.
