The representative for Obudu State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly(CRHA), Mr Steven Ukpukpen, has slumped and died during a workout session.
The incident occurred this morning at Moore Road in Calabar. After the lawmaker slumped, he was taken to a nearby Navy Clinic but was referred to another hospital, as his condition was said to be too critical for the small clinic.
He was then moved to a private hospital where he was confirmed dead and was taken to the Anatomy Unit of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, where his death was certified.
Responding to the sudden death, Gaul-lebo, his colleague at the CRHA, said he was in shock over the news and was in a meeting with the family of the late lawmaker. He added that a formal statement would be issued by the House over the incident.
