Anambra Residents are going about their businesses, defying the IPOB sit-at-home order to honour the lives lost in the Nigeria-Biafra civil war.
Today, May 30, marks the 51st anniversary of the declaration of the Republic of Biafra. The secessionist groups today tout this day as Heroes’ Day.
Reports aggregated by Plus TV Africa, however, say there has not been appreciable compliance with the IPOB sit-at-home directive.
In Anambra, commercial banks, schools, markets, motor parks and private offices, shops, government offices and public places in the state capital Awka, are all said to be currently open for business.
The state governor, Willie Obiano, had earlier directed the immediate resumption of businesses and workers today, after yesterday’s Democracy Day public holiday.
The Federal High Court in Abuja had proscribed IPOB all over Nigeria and declared the pro-Biafra group a terrorist organisation.
in Calabar, Cross River State, traders and shop owners also went about their businesses, in clear disregard of the IPOB order.
