The power sector has registered more losses than gains since the year began. Currently, the power sector has recorded losses amounting to N187 billion due to cases of inadequate distribution, transmission, unavailability of sufficient gas and water reserve constraints.

The shortage of power supply on May 26 was due to the unavailability of gas as verified by Vanguard. Reports from the office of the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, estimated the loss as a result of insufficient gas supply, distribution, transmission and water reserve issues to date 2018 at N187,197,000,000.

On the 26th alone, the power sector lost a total of N, 644,000,000 due to the same issues of insufficient gas supply, as well as distribution and transmission infrastructure.

To reduce issues on distribution and transmission, customers will be able to purchase power from GENCO which reduces the demand on DISCO’s through the eligible customer’s scheme, which Dr Frank Jacob has described as a welcome idea. He believes it will help recoup losses in the long run.
