The Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi, confirmed that 13 foreigners with fake documents have been arrested on Tuesday as Kenya continues the crackdown on foreigners without appropriate documents in the country.
Matiangi also noted that a 60-day work-permit verification process has begun, in which 2000 foreigners working in the country have been issued with work permits.
The Cabinet Secretary also revealed that the country spent about Sh360 million on deportation in 2017. He further expressed the need to have more stringent measures guiding the approval of work permits henceforth.
He noted that the procedure for getting a work permit, valid official endorsement or passport is simple. The requirements include submitting a valid alien card, official payment receipt and a Kenya Revenue Authority PIN (number).
The registration process is ongoing till July 13. Any culprit found after the said date would face immediate deportation, he added.
