Immigrant Malian, Mamoudou Gassama, has surely become a household name after his heroic rescue of a toddler dangling from their balcony in France.

Whereas he [Gassama] is getting all the accolades and recognition from both local and international media, as well as the French Government, the parents of the child have had to answer numerous questions from the general public and social workers, with many apportioning blame to the father as being negligent.

Macron in a speech offered Mamoudou Gassama French Citizenry in a Public  declaration saying: (Translated below)

This morning, I received a young hero, who made a name for himself during the weekend. He told me what he had accomplished, something many of us have seen. And so it was decided not only to regularise his situation very quickly, but also to initiate a naturalisation procedure, and give him the opportunity to, through civic service, integrate into the fire department, to exercise every day the same heroism. Because it’s the same spirit that our fire-fighters show every day. More seriously, I believe that the exceptional nature of this gesture justifies the exceptional decision we have made. I have had the opportunity to say it several times, France is about willingness and commitment. And that’s what he showed.

In an interview granted to Antenne Reunion, the mother of the child admitted that the husband was not used to taking care of the toddler on his own and had left him to himself before yesterday’s incidence.

“I can’t justify what my husband did. People will say it could have happened to anyone and it has happened to other people. My son was just lucky,” she added.

The father of the child, who was away playing Pokemon Go while the incident took place, now faces two years in prison as a consequence for his actions, according to French Prosecutor, Francois Mollins.
