Coca-cola, which first announced its intention to begin its production of alcoholic drinks in March, today launched its first alcoholic drink in the company’s 125- year history. The lemon flavoured alcopop was released into the Japanese market on Monday. It has a 3 – 8 percent alcohol content.
Three variants of the new Coca-cola fizzy lemon drinks were on sale. Coca-cola, with these new products, is aimed at expanding its market by selling to interested young consumers.
The drink can be closely compared to Japans Chu-Hi drinks, which is an abbreviation for shochu highball which is a blend of local spirit and a variety of fruit flavour. The drink is known to be popular among the women.
According to an online news source, Coca-cola has no immediate plans of expanding its sale of the new alcoholic drinks to markets outside Japan.
