A court ruling was passed yesterday in favour of Bodo community against Shell over the clean up of the oil spills which the company is responsible for from 2008.
The litigation which was previously on hold has been extended until July 1, 2019, by Mrs Justice Cockerill of the London high court to enable the community to pursue the case in court. This is favourable news to the community as this ensures that their efforts will not be in vain.
Although Shell has resumed cleanup of the community, investing about 55 million pounds to this cause, the members of the community wish the litigation to remain valid until Shell completes the process to avoid abandonment of the project in the near future.
