The Sudanese government has summoned the Egyptian Ambassador over a TV series titled Omar Al-Masri, currently running on Egyptian Television since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. Sudan says the series portrays its people as a host to Egyptian terrorists.
A Memorandum was sent to Egyptian authorities demanding that actions be taken and the series portraying Sudan in a negative light be pulled off the air. Sudan warned that actions such as this can potentially harm the relations between the two countries.
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry, while expressing its dissatisfaction by the portrayal of Sudan in the series, also acknowledged that such negative stereotypes were insulting and demanded guarantees that actions would be taken to nip in the bud the looming conflict that this is capable of stirring up.
In the statement, Sudan reiterated the fact that no single Egyptian dwelling on its land has ever been accused of acts of terrorism, noting that both countries have a top-notch security coordination between them. Both countries have also, in the past, reached a firm agreement in which they resolved that there would be no hostility of any kind between them.
