Taliban fighters have warned of more impending attacks on the city of Farah in western Afghanistan on Tuesday.
A government official based in the city, as well as local residents, have said: “The Taliban are moving very fast; if the government does not take serious and speedy action, Farah will become a Taliban stronghold.”
Other residents told Reuters, the Taliban began their operation in the early hours of the morning and have been responsible for multiple attacks within the city.
The Taliban have been active in the region and began their yearly attacks last month, including a number of suicide attacks in Kabul.
Farah is an isolated and lightly populated area and borders Iran. In recent months it has seen incessant fighting, with hundreds of security officials killed.
A doctor from the local hospital, told Reuters that two people have been killed whilst 16 have been injured from the Afghan security forces, and five civilians – many women and children have also been injured in the crossfire.
