After his victory at the Madrid Open yesterday, Germany’s Alexander ‘Sascha’ Zverev (Jnr) has set his eyes on the Rome Masters.

Twenty-one-year-old German lifted his third ATP 1000 Masters trophy after beating Dominic Thiem 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday.

The world number three made it through to the finals after eliminating one of the world’s biggest servers John Isner at the quarterfinals and Dennis Shapovalov at the semis.

Austrian Dominic Thiem had put up an outstanding performance as well. He ended Rafa Nadal’s 21-match winning streak on clay at the quarter-final and eased past South African Kevin Anderson at the semi-finals. But his top performance was not enough to stop Zverev, who had not dropped a set in the tournament.

This is Zverev’s eight career title and second for 2018. He continues his quest in Rome, where he’ll be paring up with older brother Mischa Zverev, at the round of 32 doubles against Dominic Thiem and Steve Johnson.
