Ms Nimisha Madhvani, Uganda’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates has been recalled as a result of protests by the Arab state over her conduct.
A letter dated May 10 and signed by the acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Isaac Sebulime gave the direction for her recall. Madhvani was also ordered to hand over to Mr Sam Omara, who will be in charge of the mission in her absence.
According to reports, Ms Madhvani’s plights started when in April, Ugandan MPs were invited to the UAE. In that meeting, she allegedly claimed that Ugandan girls were being sold out in the slave markets.
The MP’s were rather shocked and expressed their utter disappointment. While appearing before the Committee of Defence and Internal Affairs last month, the MP’s raised their concern over the issue to the Ministry’s officials led by Hon. Jeje Odongo.
The recalled Ambassador has in the past served as Uganda’s Ambassador to France, Spain, Portugal and UNESCO based in Paris. She assumed the position of Ambassador to the UAE in 2017.
