Kenyans dominate Okpekpe International 10km Road Race

Despite heavy rains, Kenya’s athletes reigned supreme today as they won the first, second and third positions at this year’s Okpekpe International 10km Road Race at Okpekpe in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo.

Alex Kibet crossed the line in 29.47seconds to win the 20,000-dollar prize money.

Simon Cheprat took second place, returning in 30.29 seconds for the 13,000-dollar cash prize, while Ronoh Kiplagat finished in 30.39 seconds to claim 9,000 dollars.

Kibet said that though the rain made running very tough, he was delighted to be named the winner.

Yami Dida from Ethiopia won the women’s elite race in 33.01seconds with Tuei Chebet from Kenya coming in a close second in 33.33 seconds. Kenyan Kipyojei Chemtai ran the race in 34.24 seconds to come in third.

For the Nigeria Male Elite race, it’s Emmanuel Gyang in first, Gedion Goyet second, and Ismail Sodie third.

Deborah Pam came in first in the Nigeria Female Elite Category with Rose Akusho second and Hudung Gyang in third place.

The male and female Nigeria Elite category winners; first, second and third, got one million Naira, N600, 000 and N400, 000 respectively.
