The US has enforced sanctions on six people and three companies it says have links to Iran’s elite military force, the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the penalties are targeted at those who had siphoned millions of dollars to the group, to fund its “malign activity”.
He said Iran’s central bank aided the IRGC in accessing US dollars through an extensive currency exchange system.
The Treasury Department has identified all six individuals as being from Iran.
Consequently, the US Treasury Secretary stated that Americans and US entities would be prevented from doing business with them.
