Indonesian villagers have been evacuated from one of the world’s most active volcanoes. Mount Merapi erupted, sending a pour of ash and smoke to approximately 16,400ft into the sky.
The Indonesian government has instructed residents living within and in neighbouring communities to leave as the cascade ash continues to spread, and even reaching parts of Indonesia’s cultural capital, Yogyakarta
The international airport has been immediately closed down, with over 20 flights cancelled as a result of the eruption which has occurred since 7:30 this morning.
