Following the arrest of former Plateau State governor, Jonah David Jang on Monday for alleged fraud, Jang has requested that the FCT High Court allow his release because he is diabetic.
In a motion of notice presented by Jang’s team of lawyers, they say that the continuous unauthorized detention of the senator has brought about a deterioration of his health as the EFCC detention has prevented him from receiving proper medical care, making his blood sugar level out of control.
This is coming barely three days after his arrest and detention by EFCC.
Journalists were given a copy of the court processes during the press conference held by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba and a member of his legal team, David Dusu.
According to Dusu, he had already filed for bail directing it to the Plateau State High Court. He also confirmed that Jang who was told he would see Ibrahim Magu , EFCC Chairman was denied access once he got to the Tunde Idiagbon Block of the commission, and has since then been in the custody of EFCC, but is yet to be charged to court.
Dusu who believes that this is an act of political intimidation says they are not in a banana republic where anything can happen. He has also called on the general Nigerian public to mount pressure on EFCC to release Jang.
Gloria Ntekim said Jang had been honoring all invitations by the EFCC since January and was also granted administrative bail during his first invite.
Damishi Sango ,Chairman of PDP in Plateau State said he believe that the refusal of Jang’s bail request is a gross violation of his human right as provided under the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s constitution. He said Jang has not only been denied bail, but has also been denied access to proper health care, his lawyers and family.
