Mr Babatunde Fashola, former governor of Lagos State, now Minister of Power, Works and Housing has called on private power developers who have the capacity to distribute power to the public, to do so as no license would be required for that.

He said this during his visit to Jigawa on a two-day work-visit as he spoke with pressmen.

He said that any interested individual or company, while putting into consideration their ability to sell according to their capacity, is permitted to set up a power generating station that can distribute not more that 2Megawatts and sell to the general public, instead of embarking on big projects which would require an exorbitant amount of money and expertise.

He explained the delay in the private solar panel generation project, saying the requests from investors were not feasible, but negotiations are ongoing.

The minister confirmed that Jigawa State has, however, allocated 2,000 hectares of land for the solar power project.
