Ethiopian Airline, which was established in 1945, has experienced sporadic growth in her national carrier, which has led to an early review of the initial 15-year expansion strategy to double its fleet to 120.

Fortunately for the national carrier which seems to be playing its cards right, the dream to be the largest airline by 2025 may be actualized earlier than envisioned as it already has 100 planes flying from Asia to South America and four US cities. The airline has increased the expected number of its fleet to 150 or more by 2025

By revenue and profit, the Ethiopian national carrier has surpassed South African and Kenyan Airways.

Chief Executive, Tewolde Gebremariam said they had expanded more than he expected. He said in the 2016/2017 fiscal year, the airline had bagged $2.7 billion in revenue and net profit was up $233 million.

Plans for expansion include ordering for 13 additional Boeing 727 jets, and 6 airbuses A350s according to Reuters.
