Hezbollah has emerged as winners of the Lebanese election. The Iran-backed Shi’ite group secured more than half the seats in Lebanon’s first parliamentary election in nine years, according to unofficial results and Lebanese media.
Upon its confirmation, the win would secure Hezbollah’s political position, as well as reflecting Iran’s regional dominance in the territory. It is an enemy of neighboring Israel and is currently on the American terrorist watch list.
The Western-backed Prime Minister, Saad al-Hariri, assumes the position as Sunni Muslim leader as he occupies a larger number of seats in parliament, despite losing seats In his strongholds, he will still be the front-runner to form the next government.
The new government is expected to include all the main parties, According to the country’s sectarian power-sharing system.
