Central Bank of Nigeria, rumoured to be razed by fire yesterday, 1st of May, 2018

Contrary to the widespread rumours that the head office of the Central Bank of Nigeria was engulfed in a fire yesterday, no such fire incident happened at the apex bank.

A statement from Mr Isaac Okoroafor, CBN’s Acting Director of Corporate Communication, said passersby had mistaken the exhaust smoke from a generating set of a nearby building for a fire at CBN.

Okoroafor said the faulty generator, which was belching the smoke that gave rise to the false alarm, has already been shut down and repair works have since begun.

He further reassured that the Central Bank of Nigeria has a system of fire safety alarms and sprinklers in case of any such fire accident.

Many people had taken to different the social media platforms, last night, sharing videos and images of an allegedly raging fire at the CBN headquarters.
