US President Donald Trump has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to put a stop to the gruesome killings of Christians across Nigeria.
Trump who spoke at a joint press conference he addressed alongside the visiting Nigerian leader at the White House yesterday, said the protracted killings of Christians in the country was unacceptable and required putting a quick end to.
Meanwhile, President Buhari blamed the killings on the movement of militants from Libya, following the death of its former leader, Muammar Gaddafi. He pointed out that the killer herdsmen were not the typical herdsmen Nigerians had always known. According to him, these new herdsmen are militants who have proficient skills in shooting and killing.
President Buhari is the first leader from sub-Saharan Africa to visit the U.S President since his assumption into office in 2016.
The President who also thanked Trump for the physical involvement of the U.S military in training Nigeria’s Armed Forces also commended the US for agreeing to sell 12 Tucano aircraft to Nigeria.
