The Commandant of 72 Battalion in Makurdi, Benue State, Lt.Col. Suleiman Mohammed, on Saturday, paraded three suspected herdsmen captured by troops in the state.
The suspects, who were said to be planning another attack on the Guma Local Government Area of the state, were captured by soldiers on patrol last Thursday.
Mohammed said the herdsmen, identified as Abubakar Umaru, Yusuf Yaro, and Adam Likita, were armed with AK-47 rifles, charms, handsets, and ammunition. They allegedly engaged the troops in a fierce battle before they were captured.
However, the suspects have denied any involvement in the killings in Benue State. They claimed the guns and ammunition found on them were dropped on them by their now-at-large colleagues, who ran away on sighting the soldiers.
Speaking further, he talked on the whereabouts of Boko Haram kingpin Aminu Yaminu, alias Tashaku, who was arrested on Friday; the commandant reassured the suspect is in military custody, adding that investigations are ongoing.
