A Professional caregiver, Emma-Jane Kurtz, has been convicted of willful neglect, after she left her own mother to die, covered in her own faeces. The victim, 79-year-old Cecily Kurtz, of Didcot, Oxfordshire, was found abandoned and covered in diarrhoea on a sofa at her home in 2014.

According to police, she had been left on the sofa for five days, with her chin on her knees. Her daughter, Emma-Jane, who specialized in looking after elderly people was found guilty at Oxford crown court even though she denied the charge of willful neglect.

The Judge who sentenced her on Friday described the death as painful, insisting that the old lady “was left to rot”

The court noted that Emma-Jane lived with her mother, who had mental illness and wasn’t seen by anyone in 10 years and had a lot of chances to help the old woman.

Emma-Jane, however, claimed she didn’t seek professional help for her mother because the older woman pleaded with her and asked her not to.  Prosecutors disclosed that the late Cecily weighed just 39kg as at the time of her death and had suffered unimaginably in what was described as a case of “sheer and blatant neglect”.
