After a shock defeat to Roma in the Champions League, Barcelona bounced back to winning with a 2-1 win against 3rd place Valencia at the Camp Nou on Saturday. The win saw them break a La Liga unbeaten run previously held by Real Sociedad; making it 39 league games unbeaten. Suarez 15th-minute goal and Umtiti’s 51st-minute goal both assisted by Coutinho their January window record-signing ensured that they secured all three available points. Valencia got one back in the 87th-minute courtesy of a penalty that was calmly slotted in by Parejo, but it was a case of too little too late. With this win Barcelona now has 82 points in the league for the season, followed by Athletico Madrid with 68 points. The wide margin in point differential makes it more likely that Barcelona will win its 25th La Liga title with only 6 games left until the end of the season. But for Barcelona, the bigger picture would be going unbeaten for the full 2017-18 La Liga season. They have a fairly easy run of six games left to seal this feat with exception to their home game against bitter rivals Real Madrid scheduled for May 6, 2018.
