Gunmen in Niger Republic’s western region have abducted a German aid worker, Jörg Lange.
Nigerien Attorney General, Cheibou Samna says the kidnapping which took place about 25 kilometres south of Inates yesterday, April 11 in the area close to the Mali border, was carried out by gunmen riding on four motorcycles.
Niger has its share of extremist militancy with groups affiliated to Al Qaeda and the Islamic State and recent attacks on military and civilian targets recorded along the Mali border.
Eyewitnesses say the gunmen set fire to the vehicles conveying the aid worker and his colleagues.
The German foreign ministry is yet to issue a statement on the abduction.
