Two defendants suspected of being Boko Haram members were freed yesterday by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, after five years of detention.
Justice Nyako discharged the defendants citing poor prosecution by the Federal Government, which, in the time since the defendants’ arraignment, had yet to bring witnesses to court.
Ibrahim Ahmed held since 2013 for allegedly providing passage to Boko Haram members; and Sani Argungu, detained in 2012 were brought up on charges of alleged ties with Boko Haram insurgents.
The defendants will be placed under monitoring, and the court has allowed for their re-arraignment pending the provision of witnesses by the prosecutor, the Federal Government.
